St. Marks United Methodist Church is involved with Missions both locally and abroad. Below you will find photos and information regarding these missions. You will also find opportunities for you to serve in the mission field.

The Philos Sunday school class is making the second Sunday of each month Service Sunday. During the Sunday school hour we will be performing service projects. Past projects have included picking up trash downtown, serving the Easter breakfast and helping escort people into the sanctuary. All are welcome to join us in our service projects. If anyone has an idea for a service need, please tell a member of the Philos class.

Looking for ways to show visitors attending worship at St. Marks a warm welcome? Below are several areas our Welcome Team has identified:
9 AM Worship Roaming Greeter or Follow-up Visitation
11 AM Worship Roaming Greeter, Follow-up Visitation, Kitchen or Set Up and Tear Down.
If you feel called to help with any of these or if you have any questions, please contact Sonja Babcock, Ron Cornwell, Karen Feay, Jenna Kramb or Leslie Shufelt. We are hoping for 1 month commitments in each area of responsibility.

We serve dinner on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at the City Mission. After taking part in this outreach ministry you will have a new appreciation for the scripture verse where Jesus said "when I was hungry, you gave me food to eat." The time commitment is 4 PM - 6 PM. See Karen Feay for more details or to sign-up to serve. There is also a sign-up poster in the foyer of the D.O.C.K.

Casa de Misericordia is an orphanage in Mexico. It is located in Piedras Negras which is across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas. The United Methodist Church supports this orphanage. Red Bird Mission, Kentucky
Red Bird Mission and Clinic have been providing ministries in this region of the Appalachian Mountains since 1921. Today the need remains critical in this isolated, rural distressed area. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing, and rugged mountainous terrain provide obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of this area. Red Bird Mission and Clinic strives to meet these needs through ministry in five areas: Education, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity, and Community Housing Improvement.
Support for these ministries come from churches and individuals across the nation. However, in recent years we have seen a decline in the support we are receiving. We are currently facing a financial crisis that is making it difficult to continue all the areas of ministries we provide. Without more funding today, we will have to reduce the level of ministry provided to this community. Your donations to Red Bird Mission and Clinic will help us continue these vital ministries in this distressed region of Appalachia.
Appalachian Regional Ministry, Pennsylvania
Our gifts make possible leadership training for both lay leaders and clergy in communities where sufficient resources are not available for them to attend these events. Their goal is to build up leaders in both rural and urban Appalachian Churches so these churches can build on their strengths as they reach out in ministry.

The mission at the House of Mercy is to provide a safe, nurturing, God-centered home for the abused, neglected and homeless children of Coahuila, Mexico. Our mission statement: “With God’s help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ, that these children, surrounded by steadfast love, may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.”
Grace Children’s Hospital, Haiti

Each year, the hospital receives thousands of children who are suffering from TB, HIV and other diseases.
The hospital was severely damaged in the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. The inpatient facility was condemned and demolished, and as of early 2011, patients were being cared for in transitional facilities.
Wings of the Morning, Zaire, Africa
Our Wings of the Morning plane, flown by Gaston Nambe, is the sole source of quick medical evacuation in North Katanga. This ministry is available to all in need; those with life threatening injuries and illnessesare not charged to be flown to hospitals. Many lives have been saved over the years thanks to the Wings of the Morning program. In addition to medical evacuation, Wings of the Morning is used to transport visitors to our conference: especially medical mission groups. Medical and Humanitarian needs are also flown out to the desolate areas in the Congo.
If I took the wings of the morning and settled at the furthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast. –Psalms 139:9-10
